All things considered, ‘week two’ of the 2018 football season was a solid weekend for Pasadena area programs.

The most noteworthy for obvious reasons was Blair snapping a 32-game losing streak by defeating La Verne Lutheran, 36-17, on Saturday.

St. Francis bounced back from a week one loss in a big way, as the Golden Knights dominated Damien, 38-21, in a game that wasn’t even that close.

Pasadena rallied for a pair of late TD’s to edge Pioneer in dramatic fashion.

Muir got the 29-6 victory up north, but it happened in an ugly and unexpected way.

Poly continued to dominate for the second time in two tries to start the 2018 season.

This time, the Panthers decimated La Canada, 52-0, in Saturday’s ‘fall tailgate.’

Flintridge Prep (8-man football) demolished Sun Valley, 78-0, in their season opener last Thursday.

Maranatha fell, 28-18, Friday night at Citrus College to Azusa.

La Salle and Marshall both saw its struggles continue.

The Lancers were on the wrong side of a 56-0 score to visiting Birmingham.

San Gabriel took out Marshall, 61-9.

St. Francis (1-1) headed into Friday’s home opener with Damien, and in a mood to even their season record after a week one’s five-point loss at Mira Costa.

Golden Knight quarterback, Darius Perrantes in his year-plus career at SF has played brilliantly, especially at home.

But what many, including the media didn’t know, was that Perrantes had a 104-degree fever and when the Golden Knights came out for the opening drive of the game, it wasn’t No. 7 who ran onto the field, it was No. 14.

That guy is Doyle Kane, and he played like a starting quarterback.

He finished with 235 yards through the air, two passing TD’s and a 9-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

It led to SF defeating the Spartans, 38-21, on Friday night.

Kane and Tanner Tomko connected on a pair of scores and Kevin Armstead rushed for nearly 250 yards and two TD’s, including one for 90 yards.

Perrantes was all smiles after the game and said he was feeling much better.

Muir (2-0) spent a lot of money to fly their players and coaches up to northern California, as well as needing hotel rooms.

They looked to sharpen their game after a week off.

Apparently, though, according to a number of reports, Stellar Prep then let their frustrations of being handled by Muir get the best of them, and took cheap shot after cheap shot.

It all led to Muir having to defend themselves and ended in a full-scale brawl.

The officials called the game early in the third quarter, and as of now, it looks like Muir will be awarded the win since they were leading by 23 points.

Brian Love had a pair of TD’s.

The Mustangs flew back Saturday to get ready for Thursday night’s showdown with Rancho Christian.

Poly (2-0) got another balanced effort on both sides of the ball Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers destroyed La Canada, 52-0, at their annual tailgate during the fall sports season.

For the second time in two games this season, Franco Alonso scored two TD’s.

He had a pair of carries that coach Chris Schmoke called “two ridiculous runs.”

Henry Dean scored twice on defense.

Thomas McConnell continued to lead the defensive effort with double digit tackles.

Pasadena (2-1) earned their second consecutive victory of 2018.

It was also their second straight road victory.

PHS rallied late to defeat Pioneer, 30-28, when quarterback Andreas Solling hit Mekhi Fox and Jeremiah Hutchins late in the contest Friday night.

The victory meant they had already won as many games as they had in both 2016 and 2017, when the Bulldogs were 2-8.

They also put 30 points on the board against a Pioneer team that hadn’t allowed a single point in 2018.

Fox ran for 127 yards on just six carries and a rushing TD.

Akil Andrews also scored on the ground and finished with 87 yards on 28 carries.

PHS will take this coming week off (from competition) as they enter their bye week.
