A valiant effort in a thrilling 27-21 overtime loss to Allan Hancock College earned two Pasadena City College football players SCFA Pacific League Player of the Week honors for October 13. Quarterback Mario Bobadilla was selected Offensive Player of the Week while lineman David Vardanian was picked as Defensive Player of the Week.

The sophomore Bobadilla (from Franklin High) completed 15 of 26 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 47 yards (31 net) in 11 plays. He marched the Lancers on a 99-yard TD drive in the first half and gave PCC a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter on a 33-yard TD bomb to Forest Fajardo.

A sophomore and product of La Canada High, Vardanian helped PCC limit Allan Hancock’s vaunted state-leading rushing attack as he made 10 tackles (eight solos). He also forced a fumble at the goal line to prevent a touchdown in the first half. Vardanian and Bobadilla join running back Sultaan Sullivan (week 1) and wide receiver/returner David Telles (week 2) as Lancer SCFA POW selections.

The Lancers (2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Pacific League) will play at Pierce College on Saturday, Oct. 20 in a 6 p.m. kickoff. None of the current Lancers playing roster were even born the last time that PCC faced the Brahmas on the gridiron–34 years ago in 1984. The Lancers hold an 18-11 advantage in the all-time series between the two colleges.

Pierce is 3-3 and coming off a league-opening, 23-7 win over Santa Barbara City College on Saturday. The Brahmas earlier this year defeated College of the Desert, 44-43. PCC also beat Desert in its season opener, also in a high-scoring contest, 42-38.
