From STAFF REPORTS
With four area teams eligible from the Prep League in the CIF-SS playoffs, Poly is the lone program standing after Thursday night.
Flintridge Prep didn’t get an invite and both Mayfield and Westridge lost first-round matches.
Poly earned the 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16 victory over El Segundo in the D4 playoffs, and did so on their home court.
Kate Salembier led Poly with 11 kills.
Alexis Pappachan had 7 kills and Ella Mao added 5 kills.
Zoey Mao contributed 42 assists and had 2 aces.
Debbie Hong finished with 15 digs, 3 aces and a kill.
Poly will face off against Santa Barbara (12-16) on Saturday night.
The Dons will host the Panthers, after defeating Moorpark on the road in a first-round match.
Quotable:
Poly coach Katrina Damasco: “The girls played a consistent game tonight. They kept a cool head and played each point well. Our serving game was strong and we passed well, which allowed us to open up the court and run a less predictable offense. I’m proud of how the girls handled their first round of the playoffs and I hope we can carry this momentum into the second round against Santa Barbara.”
Records: El Segundo (11-13); Poly (16-5)
