If you are a Glendora girls basketball fan, parent or player, you had two things to be thankful for on Thursday night.

First, Jorday Holmes scored a game-best 26-points, and secondly, the Tartans used a 10-point surge in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into the break.

Both were vital, because Maranatha outscored GHS, 27-18, the rest of the way.

When the final buzzer rang, however, Glendora narrowly escaped with a 49-48 victory in the Maranatha Tournament.

Jill Leslie added 10 points for the defending CIF-SS Division 2A champions.

Maranatha got a nice effort from Erica De Guzman and Merci Turner.

Turner had a team-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and De Guzman added 12 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and she finished 6-of-9 from the field.

Turner also added 10 rebounds, 4 assists and a pair of steals.

Patil Yaacoubian had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals for the Lady Minutemen.

When Maranatha looks back on this one-point defeat, they’ll kick themselves for going 1-of-14 from behind the 3-point arc.

Something will have to give tonight at 5, when undefeated GHS and Alemany square off.

Maranatha will look to even their season record at 8, when they battle Crescenta Valley.

Box Score:
GHS: 11-20-8-10-(49)
