Maranatha had won 9 of its last 10 matches and four in a row.
Not that the Minutemen would ever want to lose, but a match sandwiched in between Olympic League contests would be less painful you might think.
La Canada swept the visitors from Maranatha, 25-17, 28-26 and 25-20 in that nonleague match that comes between its sweep of Heritage Christian Tuesday and a home match with Cerritos Valley Christian next Tuesday at 6:15 when the Minutemen get back to defending their first-place status in the standings.
On Thursday, though, Maranatha (10-3 overall, 2-0 in league) were led by senior outside hitter Mikaela Ashworth, who had 10 kills 9 digs and a block.
Senior Tehya Topalian added 10 assists, 2 aces and 2 digs.
Junior Hannah Beckler had 4 kills and a block, and junior Tiffany Godley had 4 kills and 12 digs for coach Eli Cuenca.
“We had a hard time matching La Canada’s energy and we didn’t pass or serve well,” Tehya Topalian said. “This killed our opportunity to compete.”
