It wasn’t pretty, but the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team overcame 15 attack errors and 10 service errors to win its sixth straight match Wednesday night. The Lancers are undefeated in South Coast Conference North Division play after a 25-23, 25-21, 25-15 sweep over East Los Angeles College at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
The Lancers (10-5 overall) didn’t hit well until the third set when they attacked at .290 after an .082 percentage over a sloppy first two games.
Middle blocker Lania Potter powered nine kills in only 15 attempts (.467) and added two blocks while outside hitter Paige Clingaman totaled eight kills and three blocks. PCC did serve 11 aces, including four by Vanessa Lopez. Libero Michelle Boyd added 12 digs. Setter Emily Leungcontributed 17 assists.
For East Los Angeles (6-7, 0-3), Angela Wade had a match-high 10 kills. The Huskies made 25 attack errors (24 kills).
“It was an ugly win, but we’ll take it,” said PCC head coach Mike Terrill. “I give all the credit to East LA. It seemed they were the more aggressive team and were ready to play. Why it took so long for us to get going was a mystery to me. We can’t afford to have that many unforced errors against Mt. San Antonio. Hopefully, we get motivated and find some consistency.”
PCC has its first “big match” of the season when it travels to face state No. 17-ranked Mt. San Antonio College (11-1, 3-0 in conference) on Friday, Oct. 7. Game time is 6 p.m. for the divisional tilt.
