All season, Maranatha has been undersized and injured.
Still, coach Steve Bogan’s team never quits.
Friday’s perseverance was classic Bogan style as the Minutemen held on to a 35-34 victory in Olympic League play, and despite 3 fourth-quarter touchdowns by Heritage Christian.
Luke Ramos’ 39-yard TD run got the Warriors to within 35-34 in the last minute of the game.
Heritage Christian (5-3, 1-1) was surely going to kick the extra-point and head into over time, right?
Nope.
The Warriors decided to go for the 2-point attempt and the win.
But the Minutemen defense held Heritage Christian quarterback Jason Parraz from being able to sneak the ball into the end zone, and held on for a huge win.
The drama wasn’t over yet at the time, though.
Heritage Christian recovered its own onside kick with 26 seconds to play.
After a couple plays with positive yardage, Lucca Kolberg’s 55-yard attempt came up short and Bogan and Maranatha could finally exhale.
Maranatha quarterback Kwon Peterson had his best game of the season.
The dual-threat QB finished 13 of 15 for 296 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes.
Luke Ramos and Brandon Sanchez both broke the 100-yard rushing mark from the Heritage Christian backfield.
Mason Swinnie had a 35-yard rushing TD for Maranatha (3-4-1, 1-2).
