It’s been hit or miss for the Mayfield girls doubles team this season.
Of late, they had been especially good, including a solid performance in a showdown for the Prep League title with Chadwick.
But on Saturday, the Cubs’ doubles teams went a combined 0-9 at Great Oak and the season came to an end.
Great Oak’s 11 total wins was one more than they needed to clinch the match.
Mayfield’s singles more than did their share, winning 7 of 9 matches.
Lauren Panajotovic played like the No. 1 player she’s been all year.
Panajotovic won all three of her matches by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1.
No. 2 Carly Hall was also clutch, and claimed victories of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, the exact scores as Panajotovic.
Carolyn Pasgualetto picked up a victory in one of her three matches as the Cubs No. 3 player.
But it was Great Oak’s doubles that began and ended any thoughts of a third-round playoff match for the Cubs.
The Wolfpack not only went 9-0 in 9 sets, Great Oak won those matches by a combined score of 27-10.
