west-elsi2-390pxWe asked Westidge coach Otto Lacayo his thoughts on Elsinore Tuesday night after their CIF-SS Division 4 semifinal defeat.

“They definitely looked like the No. 1 seed,” he said.

Elsinore was too good, beating Westridge, 25-18, 25-17, 18-25, 25-9.

Allison Martinez led Westridge with 14 kills, 6 blocks and 9 digs.

Angelica Raymundo added 32 assists.

Eryn Boken had 7 kills and four digs.

The season is not over, though, as the Tigers (25-6) will be part of next week’s state tournament.

Westridge coach Otto Lacayo: “Our execution wasn’t all there In game 3, we played the way we wanted to play. They had a large crowd backing them up. A crowd always gets a couple of points. We fought back and won the third game with aggressive serving, but ultimately, their blocking was on point. They slowed down a lot of our hits and our offense never truly got going, but looked good in spurts.

It was a great year. The team bonded in such a way that they became a family. They loved playing with each other and coming to practice. Stephanie Davis told us she was inspired and that everything that has come before us, and everything that comes after this doesn’t compare to what’s inside of us.
