Alex Briggs, the Pasadena City College baseball team’s starting shortstop this past season, has signed a national scholarship letter of intent to attend/play at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. LIU Brooklyn is a NCAA Division I university that plays in the Northeast Conference. Briggs will play for PCC in 2017 as this was the early signing period for NCAA colleges. He will transfer as a junior for the 2018 season.

Briggs batted .252 with 19 RBI while leading PCC in runs scored with 34. He was one of the South Coast Conference’s best defensive infielders, leading the Lancers in assists with 124 and turning 21 double plays.

PCC head coach Pat McGee was excited about the the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Briggs signing with LIU-Brooklyn.

“Alex is a great defensive player and we expect him to have a big year at the plate for the Lancers in 2017,” McGee said. “I think what will help is that he signed now and won’t have decision making hanging over him like many sophomores tend to have happen to them. He can simply play hard for PCC and keep up his good grades in the classroom.”
