Unlike most traditional high schools, Flintridge Prep plays 8-man football.

The Rebels’ season has been a roller coaster ride.

After four wins to start the year, Prep lost three in a row.

But the Rebels are back in form and presently on a three-game winning streak, including playoff victories over Riverside County Educational Academy and Rolling Hills Prep.

Prep (7-3), though, has the challenge of their season, as they host Mojave, the state’s top-ranked team tonight at 7.

Mojave (9-0) averages over 60 points per game and is coming off a playoff victory over Chadwick that saw the Mustangs put up 86 points.

If the Rebels are to keep up with Mojave, they’ll need career games from its key players.

Led by trio a of stars, Warren Hosseinion, Nick Davis, and Kendall Kikkawa, this

Flintridge Prep team has outscored its opponents by 202 points during the regular season.

Hosseinion, a four year varsity athlete, began the season as a lineman and as injuries took its toll on the Rebels over the course of the year, Hosseinion was asked to take on a bigger role by playing offensive and defensive lineman, linebacker, and also power back in goal-line and short yard situations.

“(Hosseinion) is an all-around athlete and he can play just about any position we need him to” said Davis. “On every play, he gives you everything he has. He’s a great player and an outstanding guy on and off the field.”

Nick Davis, although only a junior, has the respect of his teammates, who all look up to him as one of the leaders on the team.

Davis is also one of Beau Detchemendy’s favorite targets and helps balance their offensive game plan.

“He (Davis) is one of those reliable guys, whenever you need a big play or just a few yards in a big situation you look for him to make a play,” said Hosseinion.

Senior running back, Kendall Kikkawa, has been a force to reckon with in the back field rushing for 10 touchdowns in the last two games against Riverside County Educational Academy and Rolling Hills Prep.

Eight of those 10 scores were in the opening round victory against RCEA.

In order to advance to the CIF-SS finals, and saddle Mojave with their first loss of the season, Prep’s go-to guys will need huge games.

“We know they (Mojave) have a good team this year and historically are a good program,” said Kikkawa. “We know they’re undefeated, so we have our work cut out for us. As long as we play well collectively as a team, we like our chances. It’s going to take more than just three, or eight guys. It’s going to take a full team effort in order to advance.”
