Fresh off of setting the Caltech men’s swimming 100-yard breaststroke record, freshman Thomas Gallup (Houston, Texas / Phillips Exeter Academy) continued his recent run of dominance by winning three events for the Beavers in their Saturday SCIAC meet at Chapman College.

Gallup, Sophomore Dylan Lu (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood), sophomore Jonathan Willett (Edina, Minn. / Edina), and freshman Henry Steiner (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) started strong for the Beavers by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:40.41. Gallup also took first in the 200-yard breastroke (2:17.43) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.63), the latter of which he holds the Caltech record in. This also marks the second meet in a row Gallup won at least one individual event while having a hand in a winning relay team.

The Beavers continued their proficiency in short-pool events when freshman Alex Moraru (Southlake, Texas / Carroll Senior) won the 100-yard butterfly (56.49) and Dylan Lu (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood) won the 100-yard backstroke (55.83). Lu also won the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.92), making him one of Caltech’s two dual event winners on the day.

Head coach Paul Hughes and the Beavers will face a lengthy layoff before their next meet. The team is off until January 14, 2017, when they take on Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer in a SCIAC tri-meet.
