Senior guard Ricky Galliani (Menlo Park, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) came within one three-pointer away from notching his first double-double of 2016 in Caltech men’s basketball’s Thursday loss at Pacific University. Galliani scored seven points and led the team with 11 rebounds. Five of his rebounds came on the offensive end.
Big man Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) led the Beavers with nine points, all of which came in the first half, which coincidentally was the better half of play for the entire team. Caltech entered the the second half trailing by just nine points, but fell behind after getting outrebounded in the final 20 minutes. The Beavers entered the second frame having outrebounded Pacific, 24-18. Al-Rayes finished the game with five rebounds, good for second on the team behind Galliani. The Doha native also went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. The charity stripe was additionally kind to freshman Calvin Huh (Fort Lee, N.J. / Bergen Tech), who scored all five his points from free throws. The Beavers went 11-for-15 from the line as a team.
Still looking for their first victory of the season, Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will have another chance to get it when they take on Lewis & Clark College in the final game of their Oregon road trip.
