Senior David LeBaron (San Diego, Calif. / Francis Parker) headed up the scoring for Caltech men’s basketball against host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday.
The versatile guard/forward led the Beavers with 12 points after shooting 4-for-12 from the field. He contributed to the Beavers’ total in a multitude of ways. Half of his points came from three-pointers and he also knocked down two free throws. He also led the team with six rebounds and added one assist and one steal.
Senior center Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) entered the game coming off back-to-back career outings, but had a quiet night after the Stags were able to neutralize him beneath the glass. The big man scored seven points and finished with four rebounds. All of his points and rebounds came in the first half, which was coincidentally the better of the Beavers’ two halves. Though the Beavers hung tough with the Stags in the first half, they fell behind after absorbing a 13-0 CMS run early in the second half. In spite of freshman Alex Andrews (Folsom, Calif. / Folsom) dishing out three assists and senior Ricky Galliani (Menlo Park, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) having a turnover free evening, the Beavers were unable to claw their way back into the game.
Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will continue SCIAC play when they host Redlands University on Thursday, January 12.
