Heading into Olympic League play, the Maranatha boys basketball program found itself with a 6-7 record.
For those who follow high school sports, they know it’s the success you have in league play that determines whether a team plays in the postseason, and it dictates the playoff seed that particular team gets.
So, if we’re measuring Maranatha based on its Olympic League start, it’s all good for the Minutemen and coach Tim Tucker.
Chris Austin had 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots on Friday night to lead Maranatha past Valley Christian of Cerritos, 59-50.
The win, Maranatha’s third consecutive league victory, has the Minutemen alone atop the Olympic League standings.
Marcus Reedy added 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
Maranatha will take on Palisades on Saturday morning at 11:30 in East L.A. in an invitational showcase.
But the Minutemen will continue league play on Tuesday when they travel to Sun Valley to take on Village Christian at 7:30.
Olympic League Standings:
Maranatha (9-7 overall, 3-0 in league)
Heritage Christian (14-7, 2-2)
Valley Christian (12-9, 2-2)
Whittier Christian (13-7, 1-2)
Village Christian (13-6, 0-2)
