Sophomore Henry Steiner (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) and freshman Thomas Gallup (Houston, Texas / Phillips Exeter Academy) drew the Caltech men’s swimming team’s most consistent series of finishes Saturday at Claremont-Mudd Scripps Colleges. The Beavers took on CMS and California Lutheran College in their second SCIAC tri-meet this month.

Steiner did not finish outside the top-four in any of his races. The sophomore claimed third the 100-yard freestyle, finishing just over two seconds off the leader at 48.96 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.57) and took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, along with teammates Gallup, sophomore Dylan Lu (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood) and sophomore Jonathan Willett (Edina, Minn. / Edina) 1:29.26. Of the four, Willett, who anchored the team swam the fastest split in 21.49 seconds.

Gallup, meanwhile finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (59.04) and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.18). Willett finished sixth in the same event (1:48.52) and first in the event among Beavers. Caltech came up on the short side in the team score, finishing with the lowest team score between the three teams.

Head coach Paul Hughes and the Beavers will look to gain some steam before the SCIAC Championships when they take part in their final dual meet of the season at home against University of La Verne.
