Alisa Shinn led the Lancers in Friday’s road win.
Freshman center Alisa Shinn scored her season high of 24 points and grabbed a PCC season-best 18 rebounds to lead the state No. 13-ranked Pasadena City College women’s basketball team over host Rio Hondo, 81-61, Friday night in a South Coast Conference North Division game.
Shinn added four assists and two blocked shots as Pasadena improved to 18-5 overall and 2-2 in conference. The Roadrunners dropped to 4-17 and 0-4.
Rio Hondo was tied with the Lancers, 24-24, but Shinn scored seven of the team’s final 12 points of the second quarter that gave PCC a 36-27 halftime lead. Pasadena extended its lead to 20 by the third quarter and coasted the rest of the way.
Jolene Robinson tallied 16 points and seven rebounds while Ilianna Blanc had 10 points. Kailyn Gideon tacked on eight points and 11 rebounds and the pair of Samaiyah Abdullah (three 3-pointers) and Jelissa Puckett scored nine points each. Kandace Payne didn’t score but added eight rebounds and two steals.
PCC participates in the SCC “Wednesday Rivals” series on Feb. 1 when it hosts No. 3-ranked East Los Angeles College. The Huskies eliminated PCC in the third round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs last season. Tip-off is 7 p.m. following the men’s game at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
