From Staff Reports
For three quarters, it looked like St. Francis was going to get their signature win.
The Golden Knights went into the fourth quarter with a 61-60 lead over first-place and undefeated (in league) Alemany, in the regular season finale.
But the Warriors outscored St. Francis, 25-6, in the final period, and defeated the Golden Knights, 85-67.
Joey Walsh has led St. Francis all season, so why would his last game in front of “The Dungeon” be any different?
Walsh had a game-high 30 points, which included three 3-point baskets.
The senior guard also grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 steals.
“It was great. The atmosphere was amazing. I could not have asked for a better senior night,” Walsh said. “Playing with these seniors, we have all grown so close with each other. We played this game very hard, I thought. We were up by one going into the fourth with a top 10 team in the state. It was a great game before the playoffs, because if we can play like this against Alemany, watch out! St. Francis can make some noise in this playoff run.”
Brandon Davis scored 11 of his 19 in the decisive fourth quarter for Alemany (24-3 overall, 12-0 in league).
DJ McDonald and Earnie Sears had 20 points each for the Mission League champs.
Andre Henry finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists for St. Francis (14-12, 3-9).
Alejandro Moreno added 7 for the Golden Knights, while Sean Stephen and Tomas Seager had 6 points each for St. Francis.
Fred Odhiambo finished with 12 points for Alemany.
Finishing in sixth place in the very tough Mission League wasn’t necessarily what St. Francis had in mind, but the Golden Knights literally doubled their win total from a year ago, and are eligible for the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, because of their better-than .500 record (14-12).
The seniors will all have left their mark at St. Francis, and they include: Daniel Scott, Alejandro Moreno, Joey Walsh, Tomas Seager, Joey Gallo, Sean Stephen and Jace Harrick.
