The Minutemen had five players in double figures (scoring) and had two more with at least 6 points in the 70-43 victory over Viewpoint.
Jesse Elrod and Terrance Lang had 12 points apiece for Maranatha (15-9).
The Minutemen will host St. John Bosco (18-11) of the tough Trinity League on Friday night at 7 p.m., as the playoffs continue.
Maranatha took a 37-18 lead into the half, and for all intents and purposes, the Patriots (14-12) had no path to victory.
Chris Austin and Tevan Khudatyan had 11 points each.
Senior point guard Sean Espinosa added 10 points and 9 assists.
Marcus Reedy and Josh Kim both scored 6 points for Maranatha.
Khair Jackson led Viewpoint with 12 points.
Quotable:
Senior Point Guard Sean Espinosa: “We are starting to play really well right now, and everyone seems to be playing good basketball. We are playing great team defense and playing great as a team on offense. I believe that we can make a really deep run and have a shot at a ring this year.”
Senior Center Jesse Elrod: “I thought we played competitive right out the start. We held them to a single-digit quarter the 1st quarter and that’s where we want to win games with our defense. On the offensive end, we were passing the ball around really well and that’s why we had 5 guys in double digit numbers and that’s what we want.”
Box Score:
Viewpoint: 8-10-9-16-(44)
Maranatha:20-17-11-22-(70)
