It’s been a pretty magical season for the Flintridge Prep girls basketball program.
Coach Kevin Kiyomura and his cousin and co-head coach, Jayme Kiyomura-Chan, have seen their Rebels cruise through the regular season and have had many contributors.
The Rebels are 23-2 overall and ran their Prep League slate a perfect 12-0.
Senior Taylor Yoshida had led the way all season and recently hit the 1,000 point milestone that marks greatness in a prep basketball player.
Yoshida followed in the footsteps of Renae Tamura this season, who also reached the same club.
Yoshida averages 14 points per game, and adds 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals each night.
She shoots 48-percent from the field, and 75-percent from the free-throw line.
Yoshida and the Rebels enter Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 3-A playoff match up with the Granite Hills-Perris winner on a 15-game win streak.
Quotable:
Senior Taylor Yoshida: “I am very grateful about passing that milestone, and especially couldn’t have done it without the team and support of everyone. It was a very fun and memorable moment that I will never forget. It was also a blessing to have gotten it with Renae (Tamura) and seeing the vast development throughout our careers. This team is working hard and preparing for the playoffs. I am hoping we do our best for the coaches and the program.”
Coach Kevin Kiyomura: “Taylor has worked hard since day one as a freshman on varsity. She’s put the best interest of the team first, especially as a point guard, and I’m very happy to see her achieve the 1,000 point milestone and get the recognition she deserves.
I am not too sure how many players are a part of the 1,000 point club in Prep history, but in our tenure coaching at Prep, there has been Tala Ismail (last season), Renae Tamura (this season) and Taylor.
