More times than not, basketball teams, regardless of gender, start slow in the first round of the playoffs while they work off the postseason nerves of knowing each game is a win-or-go-home scenario.

But don’t tell that to the La Salle girls program.

The Lancers scored 24 first-quarter points, took an early 16-point lead and never looked back in their CIF-SS Division 3-A playoff opener over visiting Chaffey of Ontario.

When it was all said and done, La Salle defeated the Tigers, 79-51.

They’re waiting to see who won the Price-Oxnard game, but either way, the Lancers will be on the road this Saturday.

Julia Macabuhay led the way as she always does with 24 points.

Alyssa Arroyo added 15, Nicole Ortiz had 11 and Giliene So had 9 for La Salle (20-9).

Kaycee Martin led Chaffey (12-10) with 19 points.

La Salle scoring: Julia Macabuhay 24, Alyssa Arroyo 15. Nicole Ortiz 11, Giliene So 9, Brianna Antillon 8, Crystal Ramirez 6, Grace Fallar 4, Katie Perez 2

Chaffey Scoring: Kaycee Martin 19, Danielle Brunier 11, Alexis Bridges 9. Ericka Chrismon 8, Nadine Gonzalez 2, Samantha Franco 2
