Sophomore Brittany Percin (Lake Tahoe, Calif. / Stanford Online) earned her third trip to the SCIAC Championships podium with a third-place finish in the 200 Fly on the final day of the 2016-17 season for the Caltech women’s swim & dive team.
Percin qualified for the finals as the fourth seed and dropped almost 1.5 seconds to clock a season-best 2:08.16. Finding herself all the way back in sixth place after the opening 50, she pulled back into fourth by the 150-yard mark and brought the race home with the second-quickest split of anyone in the pool to clinch the medal finish.

Sophomore Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) and freshman Angelina Pan (Toronto, Canada / Havergal Coll.) each picked up individual points on the final day as well, with Takahashi lowering her own 200 Back record to 2:12.25 for 14th place while Pan finished in 16th with a 55.32 in the 100 Free.
The meet culminated with the 400 Free Relay, on which Percin led off with a record-breaking 53.29. Freshman Elisabeth Gallmeier (Oak Ridge, Tenn. / Oak Ridge) followed up with her first career sub-minute split at 59.63, with Takahashi posting a 54.63 and Pan anchoring in 55.08 to break the previous program record by eight seconds (3:42.63).
In the first year of Head Coach Paul Hughes’ tenure, the Beavers set a total of seven records. Percin and Takahashi hold seven and four individual records, respectively, while also sharing four of the five relay records.
