The first thing Pasadena coach Jett del Mundo said when asked about what made it possible to leave Whittier Christian with a 54-48 victory in the CIF-SS Division 4-AA quarterfinals was appreciation for the Pacific League.

He wanted to thank all the coaches for their battles and thus, getting the Bulldogs ready for a playoff grind.

Whittier Christian (20-10) had a lead late at home, but Pasadena outscored the Heralds, 20-11 in the decisive fourth quarter.

Taurie Magee had a monster game with 18 points and 17 rebounds. She scored in all four quarters.

Kamesha Moore added 14 for a Bulldogs team that will host Village Christian on Saturday night at 7.

“We’re a battle-tested team that has competed all year,” del Mundo said. “We’ve found ourselves. We felt like we can do this. We had a really solid game plan in fourth quarter. I told our girls that we grew up as this game moved on. We had too many turnovers early, though, and that’s something we won’t be able to get away with against Village Christian.

The Crusaders (26-3) defeated Pasadena back on December 10 in the Burroughs Tournament, 52-36, but del Mundo said his team has made huge strides since then.

Pasadena (22-9) put up 20 points in the fourth when they had scored just 34 in the first three periods combined.

Nia Cathcart may have had just 6 points, but her free-throws late iced the game and she played incredible defense, del Mundo said.

Gillian Smith added 9 points for Pasadena.

Christa Evans led Whittier Christian with 19 points and Clairessa Watkins had 14.

Pasadena Scoring:
Taurie Magee 18, Kamesha Moore 16, Gillian Smith 9. Nia Cathcart 6. Amber Townes 3, Taylor Quarles 2

Box Score:
Pas: 11-13-13-20-(54)
WC: 9-15-10-11-(48)
