From Staff Reports
Flintridge Prep hadn’t given up a goal since Jan. 14, and they had never given up 4 scores all season.
South Torrance, though, didn’t wait long to let the Rebels know things were going to change.
Holly Kaemerle scored just 30 seconds into Tuesday’s CIF-SS Division 3 semifinal, and the Spartans scored 4 goals in the first half.
And while Prep scored two first-half goals of their own, South Torrance is off to the Division 3 finals, after defeating the Rebels, 5-2.
Kaemerle scored twice in the first half for the Spartans.
The first came on a header from Claire Groywinkle’s pass and her second was at the 16 minute mark.
Mikaela Celeste scored both of Prep’s goals and both came in the first 40 minutes.
Julia Gonzalez and Helen Schaefer were credited with the assists on both of Celeste’s goals.
Bridgette Campbell scored in the 15th minute for South Torrance and Mina Ghazizadeh’s first-half goal gave the Spartans a 4-1 lead.
Lindsey Uteda allowed all five goals, but the Prep junior shut out 16 teams this season.
As disappointed as a season-ending loss will be for the Rebels, especially this close to a CIF championship, Prep is set for next year.
Its three leading scorers, Julia Gonzalez, Helen Schaefer, and Mikaela Celeste, who combined for 83 goals, will all be back next season.
Box Score:
South Torrance: 4-1-(5)
