Brennan Doyle, Christian Alcala, Ethan Lam, and Marcelo Ramirez are all members of the Pasadena City College men’s track and field team moving up the state charts in their respective events.
At the Occidental College Distance Carnival meet held Mar. 10, Doyle raced a 50.24 seconds time to place eighth overall out of 68 runners in 11 heats of the 200 meter dash. Doyle’s season-fastest mark is now 28th in the state. A week earlier at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational, Doyle placed third in his heat, sixth at the meet, and stands 21st in the state in the 800 meters at 1:58.59.
Also at Oxy, Christian Alcala took sixth in the community colleges heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:16.48. While his 19th place overall performance didn’t seem like much, he rose to No. 15 in the state rankings of this difficult medium endurance race.
Etham Lam placed sixth overall against even 4-year university performers on his leap of 43 feet, 9.25 inches in the triple jump. Lam is now 22nd in the state in the event.
At the CSULA meet, Marcelo Ramirez raced 9:05.73, fourth and fastest of community college racers in his heat, 25th overall in the 3,000 meters. The mark is 29th among state leaders.
Nathan-Michael Guzman placed fourth in the 5,000 meters (16:01.76), followed by Lancer Eric Bravo in fifth (16:11.54). Unfortunately for PCC, both have not cracked the state top 50.
The Lancers are coached by Innocent Egbunike, in his first season directing the sport.
