Sophomore Brittany Percin (Lake Tahoe, Calif. / Stanford Online) led all Beavers with five goals as the Caltech women’s water polo team fell to visiting Macalester College, 18-8, on Saturday.
Caltech started the game strong with Percin scoring three of her goals in the first period. The Beavers’ early aggression kept things close with the Scots. Senior Mary Boyajian (Sun Valley, Calif. / Village Christian) scored a quick goal to keep the deficit at two after an opening goal from Macalester. After five minutes of scoreless play from either side Percin struck again for her fourth goal of the morning and decrease the deficit to one. Caltech conceded two goals late in the second period and trailed 8-5 at the halfway point.
Caltech was unable to scrounge much offense in the second half as Macalester’s defense tightened up while its offense exploded. Percin scored her fifth goal in the third, the lone goal for Caltech in the period. Sophomore Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore), meanwhile scored her first goal of the contest halfway through the fourth period. Boyajian scored her second goal of the game with a little under two minutes remaining in the fourth to finish out the scoring for Caltech. Two late goals from the Scots sealed the deal.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers head to Concordia (Calif.) this Tuesday, March 21st for a 1:30pm game.
