Mayfield wasn’t 6-1 heading into Wednesday’s Prep League showdown with Poly by accident.
The Cubs are a solid softball program.
Poly’s Brennah Bronk had a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame and all was looking good.
But Mayfield scored four runs in the top of the seventh off Bronk and tied the game.
Tara Adarkar, who was brought in late got to play the role of hero.
Adarkar’s two-out base hit with the bases loaded gave Poly an emotional and exciting 5-4 victory.
Bronk surrendered 7 hits, but struck out nine and got the win.
She improved to 3-1.
More importantly, Bronk’s effort gives Poly its first Prep League victory.
Jaylin Domingo went all seven innings for Mayfield and she gave up 8 hits and 5 runs, but only one of the runs was earned.
Domingo fell to 5-2.
Poly statistical highlights:
Laura Chin 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.
Vivian Wheeler went 2 for 4 with a run scored
Megan Kelleher went 2 for 3 with an hit by a pitch and a RBI.
Rory Xanders went 1 for 2 with a walk and run scored.
Bronk and Maddie Magee each had a RBI
Tara Adarkar came late into the game, came up to the plate with bases loaded and 2 outs, hits a shot out to center field to win the game.
Mayfield statistical highlights:
Julia Watson had a two-run triple in the seventh inning.
Jack Baggott went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Malayna Domingo was 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Madeline Hotaling went 1 for 3, including a run scored.
Jaylin Domingo struck out six Poly batters and walked three.
