In a showdown between the top two teams of the Olympic League, the Maranatha Minutemen topped the Lions of Tarbut V Torah in impressive fashion at Newport Beach Tennis Club, 16-2. The win was highlighted by the debut of #3 singles Daniel Guan, who swept all three of his sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.
#1 singles Matt Alleman swept his sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 while #2 singles Bryan Lin took two sets 6-3, 6-2 from the Lions’ #1 and #3 singles players. Lin was narrowly edged 4-6 in his match against the Lions’ #2 player.
#1 doubles Drew Sierra and Billy Tan continued their sparkling play with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 sweep. Not to be outdone, the #2 doubles squad of Matthew Leiva and Michael Mathews swept their sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. The #3 doubles team of Jake Scott and Tony Gao defeated the #2 and #3 teams of Tarbut 6-0, 6-0.
The win moves the Minutemen to 8-1overall and 5-0 in league, their 38th consecutive league win in a row. Maranatha is back at home on Tuesday in a tough nonleague matchup with Flintridge Prep.
