From Staff Reports
When talking to an area coach two weeks ago about Poly being in last place in the Prep League, he told me wait and watch the Panthers climb the ladder.
He was right.
Some two weeks later, Poly is secure in second place and controls its own destiny to get the No. 2 seed out of the Prep League.
The Panthers swept Rio Hondo Prep on Thursday by scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-12.
Poly is now 8-9 overall and 3-2 in league.
Matt Alison led the team with 10 kills and a .533 hitting percentage
Senior middle hitter Richard Berry led the team with 6 blocks and closed out the third and deciding set with an 11 point service run.
Will McConnell led the team with 2 digs and 23 assists
Poly will host first-place Flintridge Prep on Tuesday at 3:30.
Quotable:
Poly Outside Hitter Matt Alison: “It was a great team win, everyone did their part and we stayed positive and focused throughout. We feel really good about our progress as we head into the crucial stretch of the season. We want to close out the prep league as strong as we can and not dwell on our previous defeats.”
Prep League Standings:
Flintridge Prep (16-2 overall, 6-0 in league)
Poly (8-9, 3-2)
Firebaugh (7-6, 1-1)
Rio Hondo Prep (9-16, 2-5)
Chadwick (4-9, 1-4)
