With far too many negative stories in the news, it’s nice to report one that everyone can get behind.
Former La Salle baseball coach Harry Agajanian started a charity three years ago called “All In.”
It’s a baseball tournament over a three day period that raises money for the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
It all began, because of a conversation he had with his friend and CHLA President Richard Cordova.
Three years ago, they started with 24 schools and now, the tournament boasts 51 teams, including three from South Korea.
They have baseball programs participating from Agoura to as far south as El Toro, and there are nine locations that games are played.
Each team plays three games over the President’s Day weekend, and then Agajanian and some of the players go down and deliver the money and visit the children in the hospital.
The tournament raised $6,100 this year, despite mother nature not cooperating with heavy rains.
Money is raised from registration fees and some donations.
In all, Agajanian’s charity has delivered over $21,000 to children in need.
“It is a great feeling to be able to make a difference in a child’s life,” he said. “We are really happy with the participation and we hope to run this for years to come.”
Umpire Phil Diprima does a great job of scheduling and providing umpires for the 27 games each day.
Agajanian spent 20 season’s in the Arcadia, Bosco Tech and La Salle dugouts, including 10 of those with the Lancers.
“We’re trying to help make a brighter day for the children in the hospital, not only with a donation, but I also invite ballplayers from each school to attend the hospital for a tour and visit, which is a way for our student-athletes to learn to give back to the community,” Agajanian said.
