From Staff Reports

It might take 36 hours to make it official.

But Poly will win the Prep League championship outright.

The Panthers swept second-place Chadwick, 4-1, on Monday to earn at least a share of the title.

Poly travel to Flintridge Prep Tuesday and hosts last-place Firebaugh on Wednesday.

Even if the Panthers lost at Prep, there is zero chance they’ll lose to Firebaugh.

And having swept Chadwick, they are all but guaranteed the league’s No. 1 seed in the CIF playoffs.

But the coaches and players won’t even think about that until they finish out their regular season schedule over the next two days.

Back to Monday.

Brennah Bronk has been sensational all season.

The sophomore went distance on Monday, and she allowed just one run on six hits.

Bronk struck out seven.

She also did her part at the plate, going 2 for 3, and driving in two runs.

Vivian Wheeler went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. As well as making some great catches in right field to save the game.

“With Maddie Magee being our lone senior, and this being our senior game, she did an outstanding job behind the plate keeping everything in front of her,” Poly coach Jennifer Bond said. “Not too shabby at the plate, as well going 1 for 1 with a walk and a sac fly and scoring a run herself.”

Ella Cornwell had a sacrifice fly.

Alexa Schulten went 2 for 3 and scored the Dolphins lone run on Monday.

Samantha Degyarfas drove Schulten in with a second-inning sacrifice fly.

Alex Davisson got the loss, after going six innings for Chadwick and allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out six.

Chadwick finishes its regular season schedule at Firebaugh.

The Dolphins only two league losses this season were to Poly.

Said Bond: “We’re taking it very serious (game against Flintridge Prep). They’re our rivals and they’ll be coming to get us. Our kids are hungry, though. Brennah has had a great season (and despite being young) she can handle the pressure and puts it all on her shoulders. We were very excited to sweep Chadwick, and we’re playing well.”
