From Staff Reports:

There was obviously some disappointment on the bus ride home from El Camino College to PCC.

The Lancers were swept in the Super Regional at El Camino on Saturday.

After dropping the first game on Friday, 8-1, PCC fell again on Saturday, 9-2, ending the historic season.

PCC won their first South Coast Conference title in 45 years and last week, the Lancers earned a sweep over Riverside City College, their first playoff series victory in 50 years.

But El Camino pitching was just too much.

The high-flying PCC lineup was held to just three runs in the 18 innings with the Warriors.

El Camino starter Cassius Hamm went 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits and he struck out 11 PCC batters.

Jake Carr went the final 1 2/3, with one run on two hits and Carr struck out one batter.

Race Gardner got the start, one week after going the distance in a 3-2 victory over Riverside.

He allowed five runs on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings, and was saddled with the loss.

Nick Esparza followed Gardner, and surrendered four runs (three earned) on nine hits.

The Lancers’ sophomore walked one and struck out nine El Camino batters.

Andres Kim hit a solo shot in the eighth inning for PCC.

Alex Briggs and Brett Wheat had two hits apiece for the Lancers.

Trevor Casanova went 4 for 5, with three runs scored and an RBI for El Camino.

Hunter Lewis collected three hits and an RBI for the Warriors.

John Bicos, Jose Jimenez and Shane Ogata each had one hit for PCC.

The job Pat McGee and his staff did this season was nothing short of remarkable, and when the disappointment of this season being over wears off, his players will be able to look back and be proud of the historic season.

Quotable:

PCC coach Pat McGee: “Their top two pitchers are as good as you will find at this level and they really dominated! We needed to play near perfect baseball and we weren’t able to
do that. It was clearly a tough weekend, but this season has been nothing short of amazing!
I am proud of what this group has accomplished and continues to accomplish on and off the field.”

“We already have a large majority of our sophomore class signed to scholarships for next year and we will finish the rest of the class off on in the near future. It is our goal every year to make sure everyone of our student-athletes moves on to the next level and provided the opportunity to earn a degree. These young men have changed the perception of baseball at Pasadena City college and that is something they can always look back on and be proud of.”
