The Pasadena City College men’s cross country team learned it has plenty more work to do to improve after taking 22nd place as a team out of 27 scoring colleges at the SoCal Preview Meet held Friday at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
The Lancers were led by their ace harrier in sophomore Eduardo Urbina, who was 69th individually (out of 305 runners) as he ran a time of 22 minutes, 56.9 seconds over the 4-mile course. Letterman Felipe Loera was the only other PCC racer to break the top 100 in 98th (23:17.8). The separation was large at that point for the next fastest Lancer as freshman Dylan Che finished 172nd (24:25).
Other PCC runners were Trevor Abe (204th, 25:06), Alexis Arevalo (248th, 26:39), Keyvan Duran (250th, 26:41.6), Antonio Alvarez (256th, 26:59.7), Adrian Zavala (261st, 27:30), Izaq Davolt (264th, 27:45.6), Colin Schwantner (269th, 27:51.7), Jairo Palacios (300th, 32:32), and Julio Aguilar (301st, 32:53). For many of the Lancers runners, it was their first collegiate race at a longer course than accustomed to at the prep level.
In comparison to other South Coast Conference colleges, Mt. San Antonio won the SoCal Preview team title, Cerritos placed fifth, El Camino sixth, Chaffey 13th, Long Beach City 18th. PCC did place ahead of East Los Angeles (24th) and LA Harbor (25th). The fastest conference runner was Mt. SAC’s Anthony Alfaro who took fourth individually in 21:21.6. Urbina was the 29th fastest runner among conference racers.
Coach Innocent Egbunike’s Lancers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the 6th Mustang Challenge meet (hosted by Master’s College) at the same Central Park course.
