Sophomore outside hitter Alexa Lauinger fronted the Caltech volleyball attack with six of the team’s 19 kills against host Occidental College on Saturday. Three of Lauinger’s kills came in the first set.
Three Beavers in addition to Lauinger had three kills each. Freshman Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) had another strong defensive game, leading the Beavers with 10 digs. Freshman Krystyna Maruszko (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Marymount) had nine digs herself to go along with six assists. The Beavers at one point led the Tigers 8-7 in the first set following a Lauinger kill off of a Maruszko feed against Oxy’s serve.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will next play host to Whittier College on Tuesday, Oct. 24, for the team’s annual Senior Night and Orange Out.
