Sisters Sarah and Katie Tupy combined for almost half of Mayfield’s points on Saturday in a Prep League showdown with a very hot Poly team.

By our count, the Panthers were on close to or as much as a 9-game win streak and had won 5 of their 6 Prep League contests before visiting Mayfield.

But talk about a close game.

Poly outscored Mayfield by 1 point in the first half and the Cubs had a 28-24 advantage in the second half.

Junior Katie Tupy had a team-high 10-points and her freshman sister Sarah, added 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Mayfield held off Poly, 38-35, and pulled to within one-half game of the Panthers in second place.

Flintridge Prep has yet to drop a game in league.

Sarah Johnson led Poly and had a game-high 13 points, Kylie Kishi scored 8 and both Sarah Thein and Alexis Pappachan finished with 6 points for the Panthers.

Marguerite Irie had 9 points for the Cubs.

Poly will host Chadwick on Wednesday at 4, and Mayfield will welcome Westridge to their gym on Tuesday at 5 in a pair of Prep League games.
