By this time of the season, we’ve run out of superlatives to describe La Salle senior Julia Macabuhay.

The Lancers point guard and reigning Pasadena Sports Now Girls Basketball Player of the Year was coming off a triple-double in a first round victory over Chaparral.

If you thought she couldn’t top that, you were wrong.

Macabuhay had a career-high 48 points, as well as 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals.

She helped lead the Lancers to a 74-65 victory at Mission Prep on Saturday night.

La Salle showed their heart 197 miles from home by persevering through a number of obstacles.

Crystal Ramirez added 10 points and 8 rebounds and Nicole Ortiz had 6 points, 8 rebounds and a steal.

Alyssa Arroyo had 5 points, followed by Zarah Huo with 4 and Brianna Antillon had 1 point for the Santa Fe League champs.

Olivia Missler led the Royals with 18 points.

La Salle will meet up with top-seeded Oxford Academy (26-1) on Wednesday and a coin flip will determine the venue.

The Patriots defeated Simi Valley, 59-38, in their second-round match up.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Freedom McCullough: “You will never truly know yourself or the strength of your team until you’re tested by adversity. The Lancers had to overcome foul trouble, poor shooting and less than par officiating. But we came together and played as one. Julia (Macabuhay) did everything we needed her to do and when we needed it. That’s the sign of true athlete and stoic competitor.”

La Salle senior Julia Macabuhay: “I though we did really well. We played and went at it from start to finish. We have to work on some little stuff but other than that I though we played our game and didn’t let them control us. I was actually surprised when I was told I had 48 points. I felt good out there and just took advantage of what the defense was giving me. Going into the third round, we have to stay focused and just keep playing our game.”
