It’s been such a big year for the Pasadena and Muir boys basketball programs, that perhaps the area’s girls programs haven’t gotten the respect they’ve earned and deserve.

Heading into this coming week, only PHS and Muir are still standing in the CIF-SS boys playoffs.

The girls programs at La Salle, Flintridge Prep, Mayfield, Poly and Maranatha all earned quarterfinals berths thanks to CIF-SS second round victories on Saturday night.

The area went 5-1 on Saturday night, with just Pasadena seeing its season end.

Sunny Hills defeated the Bulldogs, 64-60, Saturday night at Marshall High School.

Each of the five teams saw a star step up, but none quite as much as La Salle’s Julia Macabuhay.

The Lancers’ senior picked a good night to set a career mark in points.

Macabuhay’s 48 points helped La Salle earn a 9-point victory some 197 miles from home in San Luis Obispo.

Macabuhay also added 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals in the win at Mission Prep, and La Salle finds itself at top-seeded Oxford Academy (26-1) on Wednesday night.

Flintridge Prep won its 17th consecutive game this season, but it did not come easily.

The Rebels got 28 points from star Kaitlyn Chen and they were able to mount a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Pacifica, 56-51.

Prep used an 18-7 fourth-quarter surge to close out Pacifica, and they will host Cerritos (25-4) on Wednesday night at 7.

Poly went out to Riverside on Saturday night and earned a 38-36 victory.

The Panthers used 17 points from Sarah Johnson and 13 from Kylie Kishi to hold off Notre Dame, which outscored Poly, 12-3, in the fourth period.

Poly will host Maranatha on Wednesday night at 7 in an all-Pasadena quarterfinal.

Maranatha got another balanced effort, including 21 points and 8 rebounds from Patil Yaacoubian.

The Lady Minutemen defeated CAMS, 64-45, on Saturday.

Erica De Guzman had 14 points and Emily Jordan finished with 13 points for a Maranatha, team that will travel to Poly on Wednesday.

Much of Mayfield’s success this season has been centered around a defense that’s held opposing offense’s below their season average.

The Cubs got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Marguerite Irie in a 48-31 victory over California Lutheran on Saturday.

Trinity Gomez also was key, finishing with 10 points.

Mayfield will travel to Santa Clara (18-6) on Wednesday night at 7.
