Both Poly and Monrovia managed three hits in Tuesday’s Dave Moore Classic (tournament).
The difference, though, was the Wildcats played solid defense and the Panthers had three errors that led to three unearned runs.
Monrovia also got a brilliant effort on the mound from Julian Gomeztrejo.
The Wildcats’ senior went the distance, scattering three hits, walking one batter, while striking out nine.
Monrovia handed Poly its first loss of the season with Tuesday’s 3-0 victory.
Gabriel Arellano went 1 for 2 and scored two runs for Monrovia.
Franco Alonso, Joe Masters and Cameron McFarlane each had a base hit in Poly’s three-hit attack.
Both Monrovia’s Arellano and Poly’s McFarlane’s hits were doubles.
Matt Queen was saddled with the loss, despite allowing just two hits and one earned run over three innings pitched.
Three of the four runs that crossed the plate against Queen were unearned, as the Panthers committed three errors.
Matt Loomis threw three scoreless, and allowed just one hit.
Poly will have another Dave Moore Tournament game Thursday, but the opponent/time/location has yet to be posted online.
