Midfielder Sandra Ambrosio, a returning All-South Coast Conference performer, used her potent left foot to help the Pasadena City College women’s soccer team defeat Glendale, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Robinson Stadium Tuesday. The Lancers extended their unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2).

Ambrosio, a sophomore midifelder, had a part in PCC’s first three goals, twice sending corner kicks to produce scores in the first half. In the 12th minute, she lofted a corner that was perfectly kicked in on a one-timer by Janel Ismail to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later, another Ambrosio corner was headed in for a goal by Aisling O’Beirne.

In the 55th minute, Ambrosio picked up a loose ball in the box and, with her back to the ne, she made a nifty turnaround shot that landed in the corner of the net for a 3-0 lead. She finished the day with a goal and two assists.

PCC outshot Glendale, 15-1, in the first half but the Vaqueros buckled down in the second half and cut down the Lancers’ scoring opportunities. PCC capped its scoring in the 90th minute when Emily Matthiesen blasted in a free kick from 22 yards out.

Overall, the Lancers outshot Glendale, 21-3.

On September 16 at Victor Valley College, Ambrosio scored a goal off a corner kick by Isabel Diaz in the third minute and PCC went on to post a 1-1 tie. Diaz played the final 56 minutes in goal and made seven saves in her first community college goaltending appearance.

On Friday, Sept. 23, the Lancers play at night contest (7 p.m.) at LA Harbor College.
