The most fierce opponent Westridge coach Otto Lacayo has faced all year is his team’s health.

The Tigers had two healthy players in Wednesday’s four-set loss to Chadwick.

One night later, Lacayo had six varsity players suited up and he called up the Tigers JV libero, Julia Cruz.

Cruz did her part with 14 digs and Westridge cruised past the Kares, 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 to hold on to a share of first place in the Prep League with one game to go.

Westridge will host Mayfield on Tuesday and has the chance to win at least a share of its first title since 2006.

Allison Martinez was the most dominant player on the court as usual.

The junior outside hitter had 18 kills, a block and an ace.

Eryn Boken added 10 kills, 7 aces and 2 blocks.

Quincy Foster’s 17 digs and Angelica Raymundo’s 32 assists were both huge for the Tigers.

Westridge is skipping a tournament over the weekend with the hopes of getting healthy and rest for Tuesday’s finale and the CIF-SS playoffs.

The other half of the Tigers dominating duo, Makana Meyer, was not even in attendance, because she’s been sick as well.

Meyer is one of the area’s true impact players.

“We need rest and to get healthy and be ready to compete Tuesday,” Lacayo said. “We want to take (at least) part of the league championship. They came out with that mind set tonight. They had fun. We had some adversity and stayed focused on the task at hand.”

Lacayo said he’s going to keep Cruz up on the varsity roster for the final regular season game and the playoffs.

Prep League Standings:
Westridge (23-5 overall, 9-2)
Chadwick (14-5, 7-2)
Poly (12-6, 7-2)
Mayfield (14-11-1, 7-3)
Flintridge Prep (11-12-1, 4-6)
Rio Hondo Prep (5-14-1, 1-10)
