The Caltech women’s tennis team dominated in nearly every singles and doubles spot to defeat visiting Principia College, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) slotted in at third singles and won her match 6-1, 6-0 and junior Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) finished her singles match the quickest, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) and senior Sophia Chen (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) also won their matches at second and fourth singles.

Sophomore Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) faced a stiff test at first singles in 35th-ranked Paige Cooley. Moriyama came up just shy of taking a back-and-forth, yet crucial first set when she Cooley won the tiebreaker, 7-3. Moriyama struggled to find her footing in the second set but turned in an otherwise fine showing against one of the nation’s top singles players. The 38th-ranked Beavers also won both doubles matches with relative ease and took two of the match’s nine points by default.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers 6-5 Beavers (2-1 SCIAC) will play their final non-conference match of the season when they host Washington natives Whitworth University on Tuesday Mar. 28 at 2 p.m.
