Caltech women’s basketball first-year head coach Bridgette Reyes has unveiled the team’s 2017-18 schedule, which will include 16 home games with the opener set for Saturday, Nov. 18.

Schedule

The Beavers again open the season against NAIA member Benedictine University at Mesa at 5 p.m. to kick off a five-game home stand, although Caltech’s next game will be played at Occidental College as part of the annual two-day Caltech-Oxy Fall Classic. The Beavers and Tigers welcome Augsburg College and regional foe Lewis & Clark University for this year’s tournament; Saturday games will be played at 1 and 3 p.m. in Pasadena.

SCIAC play begins with just the fourth game of the season as defending champion and NCAA first-round winner Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges comes toward Los Angeles for a 5 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, Dec. 2. The Beavers then host Master’s College at 2 p.m. the following Saturday before their first away game of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Saint Katherine College in a matchup that earned Caltech its first win last year. SKC will return the home-and-home series on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m.

Whittier College (9-16 overall, 8-8 SCIAC) will arrive in Pasadena on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. after stealing a game last season with a one-point 51-50 victory over the Beavers on the Poets’ home court. Caltech rounds out the 2017 calendar year with non-conference Arizona institutions Ottawa University and Embry-Riddle University on Wednesday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 30 – the seventh and eighth home games of the Beavers’ first nine to open the season.

The Beavers pick back up on New Year’s Day at Chapman University, followed by two more road games at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (1-23, 1-15) and the University of Redlands on Jan. 3 and 6, respectively. Caltech swept Pomona-Pitzer for both SCIAC victories last season, 61-58 in Claremont and 76-44 on Senior Night.

A two-game home stand breaks up bookended three-game road slates as Caltech becomes familiar with the new Wednesday-Saturday scheduling format. The Beavers welcome Occidental College on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. and the University of La Verne (3-22, 3-13) on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Cal Lutheran University hosts Caltech to close out the first round of SCIAC play on Jan. 17, followed by dates at CMS (Jan. 20) and Whittier (Jan. 24).

Caltech hosts Chapman University on Saturday, Jan. 27 and Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, Jan. 31, both at 7 p.m. The Beavers cross the 110 Freeway on Feb. 7 to challenge Oxy before hosting Redlands on Saturday, Feb. 10 and CLU on Wednesday, Feb. 14, again both at 7 p.m.

SCIAC play concludes with a rematch of last year’s quadruple-overtime 100-98 thriller at La Verne on Feb. 17, but the regular season will not end for another two days when Caltech hosts the University of California, Santa Cruz at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.
