Maranatha came into today’s Olympic League opener battle tested after playing a rigorous non-league schedule against higher division teams. The hope was that the non-league schedule would toughen the team up and give them a chance to prepare them for the CIF playoffs. It may have done just that as the Lady Minutemen cruised.

Defending league singles champion, #1 Angela Hsieh, had a nearly flawless day, going 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, while league singles runner-up, #2 Malena Smith, also swept, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.

Defending doubles league tournament champions, #1 Maddie Hernandez and Michael Wilkins, also recorded a sweep, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, as did #3 Hellen Hong and Stella Wang, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. #2 doubles, Reagan Atallah and Rose Zhang went 2-1, 1-6, 6-0, 6-0.

Next up for MHS is the league home opener versus Whittier Christian, who edged MHS last season for the league crown, breaking Maranatha’s 4 year hold on the league title. The Lady Minutemen seek to reclaim the title and must go through the Heralds to do it. The match is on Tuesday, 9/26/17 at Muir High School.
