Freshman goalkeeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) had another busy day in net, stopping 10 shots in the Caltech men’s soccer team’s trip to Chapman University on Saturday. Como saw 16 shots from the host Panthers (4-4-3, 4-2-1 SCIAC) and allowed just one goal in the game’s first 45 minutes.

Through his team’s first 10 games, Como is averaging 7.8 saves per game. While down from J.D. Feist ’17’s 9.4 saves per game this time last year, it speaks to the improvements made to the Caltech defense in recent years. The Beavers’ defensive workrate has kept them in close games with established SCIAC teams this season and Saturday’s game was no exception. Freshman Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) led Caltech with two of the team’s four shots on goal.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will be looking for their first SCIAC win of the year when they host the Unversity of Redlands in the first of a three-game home stretch on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
