For really good basketball programs, tournament games in December, especially against quality competition is meant to make those teams more prepared for league and playoff runs.
It’s an obvious bonus when you win, as well.
Pasadena looks to be the best team in the area.
And with a 59-47 victory over La Salle Tuesday night in the first round of the Glendora Tournament, their status remains intact.
Kamesha Moore was credited by coach Jett del Mundo for controlling the tempo of the game, and the sophomore guard had a team-best 19 for the Bulldogs.
PHS (9-2) got up by as many as 19 in the second half.
Julia Macabuhay, still, led all scorers with 23 points, 4 steals and 3 assists for La Salle.
Mariah Cathcart added 14 for PHS and Taurie Magee had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Amber Townes had 7 for the Bulldogs.
Crystal Ramirez added 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Alyssa Arroyo finished with 7 points and 3 steals.
Brianna Antillon had 4 points and Nicole Ortiz chipped in 3 points and 7 rebounds.
La Salle will take on Yucaipa (5-2) this morning (Wednesday 10:30) in the second round.
Pasadena faces Covina (7-6) tonight at 6.
