17-year-old Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy senior and four-time All American volleyball star Kayla Lund stepped up her game Wednesday when she signed a letter of intent to play for the University Pittsburgh. Lund was surrounded by family, peers and fellow teammates when she penned the important papers that will soon open a new chapter in her promising athletic career.
“It’s super exciting for this to actually be official. I’m proud and extremely thankful for everything,” said Lund.
Lund made the varsity volleyball roster as a freshman and quickly dominated the court. Her accolades are extensive and most notably include the rare feat of being an All American athlete—four times.
“It’s so exciting. We’ve never had a four time All American here at Sacred Heart Academy so we’re extremely proud of Kayla and for everything she’s done. She’s worked extremely hard and she’s just a great leader and great mentor for our young girls. We’re very excited for her to move on to the University of Pittsburgh and do amazing things there,” said FSHA Athletic Director Stephanie Contreras.
“She’s really harnessed the entire game from almost every single position on the court. Kayla will always put the team first and I believe that she could care less about the individual accomplishments, but cares all about the team accomplishments. That is just the type of player that she is,” said FSHA Volleyball Varsity Assitant/Program Coordinator Trent Tcheng.
“She’s the epitome of a team player.”
