From Staff Reports:

Marshall is under new management.

After last year’s 3-15 mark, no one knew what to expect.

The Eagles won their first two matches and then lost four consecutive matches.

So, were the first two wins a sign of hope or just fluke?

It was a sign of hope.

Since losing four matches in a row, Marshall is on a 3-game winning streak.

The Eagles defeated Alverno, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21 on Wednesday.

Senior setter Aileen Lopez led the way with 21 assists and 5 digs.

Senior outside hitter Samantha James added 13 kills and 11 digs.

Junior libero Claire Moats pitched in 6 digs.

James and junior opposite hitter Kendall Morton led the team with 3 aces apiece.

Marshall is now 5-4 overall, and have won three straight matches.

The Eagles defeated Arroyo and Bassett 2-1 on Saturday at the 4th annual Azusa Tournament to capture the Silver Division championship.

With a win this afternoon, Marshall has won 5 consecutive sets.

They begin Mission Valley League play at South El Monte on Friday.

Quotable:

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “I am so proud of the way the girls are playing right now. Last year, this team was 3-15. These same girls have bounced back and stuck together. They believe in each other and are playing with heart. We are so fortunate that the results are going our way, but just seeing them play cohesive volleyball after everything they went through last year is so inspiring.

I thought it was the best total match we have played this year. We are really trying to stay consistent and not go too high or too low at any point in a match. Although we made some mistakes during the second set, we were mentally tough and we overcame a deficit

“We are starting league play now, and we will see what we are made of. I really hope we can continue to stick together and believe in each other. It will surely not be an easy road, but I’m really glad we are off to a good start.”
