Yasmeen Barrios placed 32nd overall out of 87 runners to pace the Pasadena City College women’s cross country team is it opened the 2017 season Friday at the Palomar Invitational. The Lancers competed at Guajome Park in Oceanside.

Barrios, a tiny 4-foot-10 freshman from Rosemead High, raced 23:36.9 over the 3.1 mile course. Only two other PCC runners participated in freshman Vanessa Monrreal (Bassett High, 24:11, 38th place) and rookie Paola Jimenez (Franklin HS, 25:55, 54th).

Riverside City College won the team title while Tigers runner Sarah Hollis captured the individual first place medal.

The Lancers are expected to carry 11 runners, and hope to have more competing by their next event–the SoCal Preview Meet on Friday, Sept. 15 in Santa Clarita. PCC is directed by second-year head coach Innocent Egbunike.
