After 90 minutes of play and entering the second minute of stoppage time, it appeared the Pasadena City College women’s soccer team’s win streak was about to end. Instead, Brianna Aguilar sent a kick into the goalie box and Chloe Twitchell headed in the game’s only goal in a 1-0 Lancers victory at San Diego City College Friday.
Off to its best start since 2001, PCC (4-0) extended its start-of-the-year win streak to four games, surpassing the 2016 team’s entire victory mark in the process. Lilly Urumieh made three saves for her second shutout. San Diego (3-2) saw its win streak stopped at three straight.
The Lancers controlled the play, outshooting the Knights, 14-4. Twitchell, a sophomore defender, picked up her second game-winning goal in three games.
Twitchell and the defender trio of Kelly Youssef, Alexxis Molinar, Amanda Avila continue to be consistent in shutting down opponent scoring opportunities while midfielders Emily Matthiesen, Aguilar, and Thamara Peterson have pushed the play into enemy territory.
Coach Reggie Rivas’ Lancers will go for five straight when they play at Glendale College on Tuesday, Sept. 12. PCC will play under the lights in a 7 p.m. start.
