Maranatha tennis coach Arthur Hsieh was disappointed in the Minutemen doubles teams after they dropped all nine matches in a loss against Poly.
Hsieh challenged them Monday, because he knows Mayfield had a huge advantage in singles.
And while Maranatha’s doubles teams did their share (going 5-4), Mayfield still won the match, 11-7, thanks to a 7-2 advantage in singles competition.
Lauren Panajotovic, the Cubs’ No. 1 singles player, cruised to three set victories of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0.
Mayfield’s No. 2, Carly Hall, also swept with scores of 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.
Maranatha’s No. 1 singles player, Angela Hsieh, daughter of coach Arthur Hsieh, went 1-2, and had a 6-1 victory over the Cubs’ No. 3 Sofia Mireles.
Malena Smith also went 1 for 3, and she too defeated Mireles, 6-1.
Maranatha’s No. 1 doubles team of Maddie Hernandez and Michael Wilkins swept Mayfield, and the No. 2 of Reagan Atallah and Rose Zhang won two of three matches.
